The next Gross Family Prize will be awarded to a choreographer and composer for the best original dance with original music which has had its premiere professional (by that we mean, paid admissions) performance within the past two years. The next prize will be given in 2025 for works performed in 2023 and 2024. Applications for this prize must be received by December 31, 2024 and the prize will be given in 2025 – as early as possible.

Equal awards to the choreographer and composer ($20,000 each – subject to increase or decrease at the discretion of the directors).

Mission

To encourage risk taking, special notice will be given to those submissions where the creative team pushes out of their comfort zone, e.g.: a hip-hop Swan Lake, a jazz Ramayana. Although not the main criteria, an important one. Obviously the interaction between the score and the dance are of paramount importance. We also love live music and want to encourage its use.

Like our grant giving process we aim for simplicity. There will be no awards dinner with celebrity attendees.

Only checks (sorry, no statuettes) will be sent to the winners. You’ll have to handle your own publicity as we cannot.

All submissions should include:

DVD
Program showing the date and venue of the premiere
Brief biographies
Contact information

Send submissions to:

The Charles and Joan Gross Family Foundation
186 Riverside Drive
New York, NY 10024

You may submit electronically but we will need permission to download the performance video.

We will have advisors from both the dance and music worlds, but alas will have to take responsibility for the choices ourselves.

Unfortunately we cannot accept submissions of works we have commissioned.
